We have been busy in the shop lately and turning some really nice pens. In the winter many of us stay in to avoid the colder weather. Our pens can go a long way in erasing some of that down time. When was the last time you received a hand written note from a friend or someone you love? It really means allot when you get them. You know someone has spent time and cares about you and letting you know how special you are.

Having a nice pen to write with increases that enjoyment. Or even better if you are looking for a nice gift give someone a nice pen with a hand written note encouraging them to reach out to others.

In this day and age of computers many have turned to social media and email as their forms of communication. The written word has become so much more special.

Things have been busy in the workshop. Today we did a photo shoot for the holiday season. We have lots of nice things in the store that are available and ready to ship. Will be adding a page to the site to show the different styles of Cribbage Boards and Bowls we make. Those items are custom orders (Although we have a few ready that will appear in the store from time to time). Reach out to us for lead times. If there is a wood we need to locate before making the item it can take a bit of time. We hope you have an enjoyable holiday season

It’s hard to believe Labor Day is near and the summer season will be ending in less than a week.

As we head into fall we will be working on lots of items that would be great for the holidays. Many custom items we make never appear in our store those include custom made cribbage boards, hand turned bowls, custom knife handles, & jewelry boxes as they are special ordered. We hope to have some on the site soon as we build inventory. If you are interested in anything like this drop us a note. We are upgrading some tooling and developing additional templates for several items to keep up with demand.

As we get closer to the holiday season we will post a deadline for special order items. All items in our store are available, each individually made. No two pens are alike even if we have used similar hardware and woods/blanks as no two trees are alike. Kind of cool. The pictures in our store are of the actual item available.

Anytime you try something new you face different challenges. It’s when we try new things that we learn and grow the most. As we approach the 4th of July there are lots of things happening in our world. I challenge you to open up to all of these things and embrace the opportunity to learn something new. Maybe you will find a new passion, friend, or dream in the process. Be well.

Hard to believe we are already almost half way through June. Things have been busy in the shop. We will be adding close to 30 new items to the store over the next few days that have been recently turned. Each item is handcrafted right here by us. We have sourced some real cool stabilized and dyed woods from TN, added a new style of pen in the Mesa, and learned to turn bookmarks. The past couple of weeks have been busy here at Positivedots.com. We have added a couple of new things to our catalog of items we turn including an elegant Mesa style pen, some real fun bookmarks, and nice key ring style bottle opener. Some will be added to the store this weekend. As always every item we turn is done individually. The fun thing about the Key ring openers and the bookmarks is they are turned from incredibly small pieces which are cutoffs which many craftsmen/makers would have discarded even ending up in the box of wood to burn. It reminds me that you should always look for ways to find beauty in the ashes. Those little ends now become bookmarks, beads or even hand turned buttons each full of it’s own beauty. We have recently added a couple of new display cases for when we bring things out on the road. You never know where you will run into us. Remember to enjoy your spring.

For many of us we are living in pretty gray times right now. This makes it even more important to look for the beauty around us. Each spring usually the first week of May we always hope for a nice day to visit the Boston Public Garden. This picture is from our visit in 2019. In 2020 we may still be quarantined and might not make it there but the tulips will still bloom and the dogwoods will blossom. It’s a constant reminder that each season things change and there is still lots to look forward to. Be well!

Our family is enjoying this adventure called Positive Dots… One of the neat things it does is help support things in our community. Although Covid-19 has stopped some things our mission and those of others still goes on. Nicole, our Chief Fun Engineer (CFE) was scheduled to volunteer with a talented team of folks at a mission in Bolivia early this summer. This would have been her second trip to South America with this group. Although that has been postponed the need for support still exist. Over the course of the next few months we will be turning pens from Bolivian Ebony. This is a Chocolate Brown colored South American Ebony. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each pen will go towards supporting that continued effort.

Most of our items are one of a kind although we have the ability to turn similar items based on hardware & raw stock inventory we work with. We currently stock close to 40 different exotic woods sourced from all over the world that can be made into lots of nice practical things. Our business is a family venture with all of us taking part in one way or another. It came about as more and more people asked if they could purchase things as they saw them on our personal Face Book pages, and when they visited our home.
